Activities

Black Heritage Parade

The Black Heritage Parade is an avenue that brings culture and fun to our residents in Monroe and surrounding areas. It is also an opportunity for various organizations, businesses, schools, churches, fraternities, sororities, etc., to display their creative talents by designing unique floats that stroll up the streets in the parade. The parade is held every year during the last Saturday of February (Black History Month).

Easter Egg Hunt

Every year we sponsor an Easter egg hunt at one of our local elementary schools. It gives an opportunity for school aged children to come out and have an EGGstraordinary with family and friends. Food, music, and various gifts are on display at our Easter Egg Hunt.

Feed The Homeless

Everyone needs a helping hand, along with a full stomach. The Renaissance Movement Committee actively assists in feeding citizens in need at the homeless shelters. To be able volunteer and provide food to others creates an atmosphere of filled hearts and hearty meals.

Scholarship

Academic excellence and community pride is what we look for in our leaders of tomorrow. Each year the Renaissance Movement Committee issues 5 scholarships to a deserving graduating senior that attends one of Monroe’s local high schools (Carroll, Neville, Richwood, Ouachita, and Wossman).

School Supply/Toy Drives

Every year the Renaissance Movement Committee provides school supplies to students in order to assist them during the school year. We also provide toys and needs for families during the holiday season. These acts of kindness help to assist parents and families who strive to and work hard to provide for their children.
